Joe Hall, the Urban Scavenger, has been creating furniture, art and sculpture since he attended art college in the 70's. Inspired by everything in the world surrounding him, be it retro, classic, contemporary, abstract or anything else, Joe decided to get 'hands on' and create his own works ranging from sculpture to furniture.
There are two aspects to Joe’s work: repairs, welding and general metalwork, and artistic creations. Joe is becoming wellknown, for the former as he’s based on Cradle Hill Industrial Estate and is fairly unique in doing small welding jobs; the latter is what he is gradually becoming nationally known for. Featuring at exhibitions such as Channel 4’s Grand Designs, Liverpool (City of Culture) Design Show, Hayfest at Ross-on-Wye and the Observer’s Ethical Awards event, Joe isputting Seaford on the map as far as recycling is concerned!
One of his most popular designs is the ‘reclaimer chair’. Luxurious car seats are given a new lease of life in this innovative chair concept, creating a stylish, robust, comfortable chair for a contemporary interior. In fact, everything Joe creates is innovative and made from something he has salvaged. Put simply, Joe says he is “reclaiming the past, recycling the present and redesigning the future”. If you commission him to make a piece of furniture, you can be certain it will be 100% recycled and 100% unique!
Now local people will have the chance to see Joe’s designs during Lewes Artwave, starting on 23 August when his studio will be open for three weekends. Prepare to be amazed at what can become of forgotten, discarded items!
